What most marks or refers to this virgin is the event that took place in 1835 when a cholera epidemic affected the town of Barquisimeto, causing more and more people to die at the hands of this disease, it is then that the church made the decision to remove the sculptures of the Virgin of the Nazarene and the one that the Virgin of the Divine Shepherdess was waiting for, so that all pray together as an event to the Blessed Virgin on January 14, 1856, after that Father Yépez did not return her to her common church but took her to conception church where a ceremony was held and all the parishioners prayed while Father Yépez's words echoed in the church, the cholera patient asked the Virgin for help to rid the people of cholera and thus be the , the last victim of this epidemic, giving his life to the virgin to save the people. It is said that since that time, the cases decreased and the epidemic was emancipated, forever marking January 14 when the virgin of the divine shepherdess saved the town of Barquisimeto.
